Lagu Favorit Zacky Vengeance Saat Latihan

Zacky Vengeance mengakui bahwa permainan gitar favoritnya dalam lagu metal, salah satunya adalah Guns N Roses-Sweet Child O’ Mine, ia mengatakannya di majalah Guitar World terbitan 2011 yang menampilan daftar “100 Greatest Rock Guitar Songs”, dan lagu Guns N Roses tersebut menempati urutan ke-4 lagu terfavorit.

“Saat album GNR- Appetite for Destruction keluar saya masih sangat muda, tapi saya ingat melihat video mereka dan melihat GNR, Axl dengan jaket kulit putihnya dan Slash dengan topi khasnya dan botol Jack D, dan saat itupun saya terpukau. Video tersebut sangat mudah diingat dan lebih keren dari pada band seperti Poison”.

“Riff di bagian intronya sangat sempurna. Dan setelah itu saya langsung saja belajar memainkannya dengan gitar, sama seperti semua orang. Kemudian Matt dan saya menulis album pertama kami Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, dan Guns N’ Roses adalah pengaruh terbesar kami. Sound kami lebih hardcore dan underground pada saat itu, tapi kami masih menyukai GNR, karena disamping kami menginginkan sound yang cepat dan berat kami juga ingin mempunyai riff gitar yang keren seprti ‘November Rain’,‘Estranged’ dan ‘Sweet Child.

James Owen Sullivan a.k.a The Rev

Biografi

Ia memperoleh sepasang tongkat drum pada usia lima tahun, dan menerima drum sendiri pada usia sepuluh. Hanya dalam waktu satu tahun, dia bermain "The Black Page" dengan mahasiswa dalam ansambel perkusi dilakukan oleh gurunya. Dia selalu dengan pelajaran dalam enam tahun kemudian, di SMA, ia mulai bermain dalam band. Sebelum meninggalkan untuk bergabung Avenged Sevenfold sebagai salah satu anggota pendiri band ini, Sullivan adalah drummer band ska band Suburban Legends. Pada usia delapan belas tahun dia merekam album pertama dengan Avenged Sevenfold berjudul "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet". Kemudian dalam hidupnya ia dipengaruhi oleh drumer Vinnie Paul, Mike Portnoy, dan Terry Bozzio

Penyebab The Rev Meninggal


The Rev meninggal pada tanggal 28 Desember 2009 dan membuat penggemar Avenged Sevenfold terkejut. Semua tidak menyangka dengan kematiannya.

Setelah menunggu kabar otopsi dari pihak berwajib mengenai penyebab kematian The Rev, akhirnya dilakukan konfirmasi dari Orange County Deputy Coroner oleh Mitchell Sigal bahwa The Rev meninggal karena overdosis obat terlarang dan alkohol. Dalam peperikasaan yang dilakukan pada jenazah The Rev ditemukan beberpa zat yang berbahaya seperti Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam / Nordiazepam dan etanol.

Oxycodone adalah penghilang rasa sakit yang pengganti Kodein, Oxymorphone adalah obat penghilang rasa sakit mirip dengan morfin, Diazepam / Nordiazepam adalah obat kecemasan dan etanol adalah minuman keras dalam alkohol. Dalam penyelidikan juga ditemukan bahwa hati The Rev juga mengalami pembesaran yang tidak wajar.

Avenged Sevenfold Putuskan Tanpa Mike Portnoy

Untuk penggemar Mike Portnoy mungkin ini akan menjadi kabar baik, namun bagi para penggemar Avenged Sevenfold ini bisa menjadi kabar buruk. Pasalnya Mike tidak akan mengisi drum di Avenged Sevenfold pada tahun depan nantiMike yang menggantikan posisi James 'The Reverend' Sullivan yang meninggal karena mengalami komplikasi efek berlebih dari obat penghilang rasa sakit ini telah mengisi drumer saat Avenged Sevenfold tur dan pembuatan album NIGHTMARE. A7X sendiri merekrut Mike dikarenakan dia ingin menghormati almarhum The Rev yang mengidolakan mantan drumer Dream Theater itu.
Kabar ini juga dibenarkan oleh Mike dalam akun facebooknya. "Ya, kabar itu memang benar, sedih rasanya mengingat semakin dekat perpisahan bersama Avenged Sevenfold. Tahun depan mereka memilih jalan sendiri tanpa saya," tulis Mike.
Setelah kabar keluarnya Mike belum dipastikan siapa yang akan mengisi posisi drumer di Avenged Sevenfold. Mike sendiri juga akan tetap melanjutkan kecintaannya terhadap musik dan berharap bisa berkolaborasi dengan artis yang ia kagumi.

Mike Portnoy Punya Band Baru

Pasca mundurnya Mike Portnoy dari Dream Theater dan pengumuman kalau band progressive ini sedang mencari drummer baru, nama Portnoy pelan-pelan mulai tenggelam. Namun tentu saja itu bukan berarti drummer yang sempat membantu Avenged Sevenfold ini lantas pensiun dari dunia musik. Ada kabar yang menyebutkan kalau drummer ini sedang berunding dengan Steve Morse untuk membentuk band baru.
Band baru ini memang belum diberi nama. Selain Mike Portnoy dan Steve Morse (Deep Purple), masih ada nama Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard), Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, Endochine), dan Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs). Mereka ini memang belum banyak bicara soal konsep musik maupun album pertama yang bakal mereka lansir karena saat ini sepertinya mereka masih sibuk menyamakan visi dulu.
“Kami sudah merencanakan sekitar 10 hari [di studio untuk sesi pertama mereka]. Kita lihat saja apa yang akan terjadi dan seberapa banyak yang bisa kita capai. Kalau kami bisa membuat cukup banyak untuk jadi sebuah album, kami akan lanjutkan nanti. Semua masih sibuk sekarang jadi aku tidak tahu pasti berapa lama kami bisa merampungkan satu album ini,” ujar Neal Morse mengomentari band baru yang sepertinya bakal menarik ini.
